Character Development

In this entry, I will talking about one of my favourite character of all time development throughout the story. Vergil is a character from Devil May Cry, a 3D game that fits in the hack and slash category. In the beginning, Vergil is the main protaganist Dante's older twin brother. He is a half demon half human which means he has super strength. The story of him all started when his father, the demon king Sparda died from a battle and it caused other demons and creatures to start invading earth and his home. Vergil and Dante was then separated ever since the attack with him thinking his mom abandoned him alone. The beginning of the story Devil May Cry started in the 3rd game "Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening" where Vergil was introduced to the game as a cold, stoic, and serious character who distest human and seeks to obtain the greatest power. Due to his obsession with power, it lead him to a darker path and eventually losing to his humanity. By the end of the game, Vergil learned to work together with his little brother who he hated due to what happened in the past and their different ideology and values to beat Mundus, a demon god. Vergil and Dante fights for the last time and eventually lost to Dante, he felt weak and ashamed of himself and sworn he will become stronger. He then fell into darkness and down to hell.

Vergil returns to the game "Devil May Cry", but ends up being corrupted and enslaved into a demon showing that he lost his way in hell. He was eventually defeated by Dante and vanished. Dante then presumed him dead.

"Devil May Cry 5" is where Vergil's character development takes a significant change. Dante and the player learned more about his past, a developing relationship with the little brother he detested the most, and his trauma and struggles he faced. One of the biggest struggle he faced was reconciling with his human and demon sides. However, he starts learning that more and more about his human side with the help of Dante and his son, Nero. By the end of the game, we see that Vergil is starting to question his morals and eventually came up with a resolution that includes a redemption of his character and personal growth.

In conlusion, Vergil, a half demon half human who hated his only family member and his human side with an obsession to seek greater power to become stronger, ends up reconciling with his little brother and embracing and finally accepting his human side. Vergil went from a stoic, serious, power hungry character to a more relaxed, mindful, and moralled character.
